Nine royal revelations from Omid Scobie’s scathing new book Endgame

A new book, “Endgame,” delves into the dynamics of the royal family, revealing a complex web of ambition, suspicion, and competition, with the Prince and Princess of Wales at the center. Written by royal reporter Omid Scobie, the book goes beyond Prince Harry, shedding light on a purported power struggle between King Charles and Prince William.

The author explores King Charles’ relationship with his disgraced brother, Prince Andrew, and analyzes why Kate is seen as fitting the mold of Britain’s future queen. “Endgame” also delves into the UK media’s coverage of past controversies involving William and Kate, making noteworthy claims about the heir’s attitude towards his brother Harry.

Scheduled for release on November 28, the book promises to unveil intriguing insights into the inner workings of the royal family.

William snapping at Charles’ heels as ‘ambitious’ prince eyes throne

In “Endgame,” Omid Scobie sheds light on a purported rift between King Charles and his son, the Prince of Wales. The book portrays William as an ambitious and determined prince, eager to lead the royal family into the future by following “the Cambridge way” and challenging traditional norms.

Scobie suggests that while William respects his father, their differing views on the monarchy’s direction may become a source of tension in the future. Despite a shared frustration towards Prince Harry, William and Charles reportedly diverge on their visions for the institution.

The author describes Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace as centers of competing agendas, with Charles and William’s offices harboring different ideas about modernizing the monarchy. Scobie asserts that William, eyeing the throne at 41, is not affording his father the same space Charles gave to the late Queen, emphasizing that there is no time for such transitional pauses.

Prince Harry has previously expressed concern that stories about his wife were deliberately leaked to the British press, labeling it a “dirty game” during the couple’s 2022 Netflix docuseries. In these statements, Harry suggested that negative news coverage about Meghan was intended to divert media attention away from other members of the royal family.

In Omid Scobie’s book “Endgame,” he describes William and Kate’s 2019 holiday to Balmoral Castle as a “showy publicity stunt.” The couple received praise for taking a £73 per head Flybe flight from Norwich to Aberdeen, especially in contrast to reports of private flights chartered by Harry and Meghan. However, Scobie reveals that the Cambridges’ scheduled flight lacked the Flybe logo, and an empty properly branded plane was dispatched from Humberside to ensure the use of a properly branded aircraft. This same plane returned empty to Humberside after the family landed in Aberdeen, resulting in over four and a half tons of carbon emissions.

Scobie contends that the idyllic family trip was, in reality, a “showy publicity stunt.” A source close to William and Kate reportedly claimed they were unaware of Flybe switching the flights and did not seek any special treatment.
